Cyber Dollars

It’s not likely a surprise to anyone, but on-line activity in the retail category has increased year-after-year and yesterday was no exception. Cyber Monday got off to a turbo-charged Monday, and experts are estimating that shoppers spent more than $1 billion, which will come as welcome news to retailers who have been suffering the longer-than-expected economic downturn.

Shopper activity was up again this year. Depending upon which comparison shopping site one listens to, it was up someplace in the range of 15-20% over last year, outdoing this year’s Black Friday sales.

According to the Brand Keys Holiday Survey, here’s how online retailers ranked when it came to customer visits:

1. Amazon
2. Wal-Mart / Apple
3. Target
4. Zappos
5. Best Buy / Dell
6. Kohls
7. Overstock / QVC
8. Lands End / LL Bean
9. JCPenney
10. Macy’s

We’re predicting a 3% increase in holiday sales this year, and whether bricks or clicks, real and virtual cash registers are ringing more this holiday season, which should give retailers something to really celebrate.
